Musical Stories

When I hear certain lyrics within a song, it makes me think of a very precise and direct story attached to it. The words can just stand alone and paint a vivid picture in my mind. As you know, I love all kinds of music but of course, my favorite is hip hop/r&b.

Also with my OCD on movie quotes and music, I like a song or an artist into a physical hole. I have played Lloyd Banks "I don't deserve you" at least 437 times. Not only is the video done very well (not creative-like as in anything that Kanye does but still explains a story and has good visuals) but it also has some memorable lines that have conjured some great ideas for short stories...

Such as:

"I think I love you" (the way he says it is like a question almost)
"Here's your heart before I break it"
"See me and you have a magnet in between, that keeps pulling me closer"

And I absolutely love when she calls him and he has to think about everything before answering...that flashback was done nicely! It almost made him look like he was sad about it...um, knowing he wasn't because his hand didn't hesitate to delete her when the other girls opened the door...

Karmaloop - Arrival

I often buy items online and like a kid, I get super excited to track my package. These little presents to myself have a serious journey before they reach me, so I think it's intriguing to be able to see it stop in Kansas, or get scanned in New York or be put on the truck from Montana. I recently bought something from Karmaloop.com (told you I love this place) and I've checked my UPS notifications like everyday...

And right on schedule, I received my box...

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

After 2 weeks of torture, I have finally finished this book. (20 years late, I know) I must say - it has been an interesting journey and I do wish to share it with you:

1. I'm the weird girl who still reads from a physical book. So, it always amazes people on the street when I walk past them engrossed in a novel. They feel that this is an open invitation to comment on my strange behavior. With this novel, all I have been hearing is "oh I love that book!" or "I've read the whole series, how do you like it so far?"

2. I don't like giving my opinion on a book until I've read the entire thing. As a writer (okay so one book may not qualify me as a writer but still...), I don't think it's fair to critique something if you don't get the entire experience. I was going to give a "middle of the book update" a while back but decided against it. Now that I'm finally done, I feel a bit better about what I'm going to say.

IF YOU LIKED THIS BOOK - IT TELLS ME ALOT ABOUT THE TYPE OF PERSON YOU ARE!

A. The plot is engaging and a page turner.

B. The details are very gory, involves incest and misogyny and a nice boatload of sadomasochism.

Normally, I wouldn't care if a book had this focus because that's just the story the author is telling. But, I just find it very odd that SO many people LOVED this book. Either they are trying to "fit in" with the current bandwagon craze, secretly love reading about those kinds of details or might just be real literary critics (yeah okay). Anyway, because I fall in the category of the last one, I'll be reading the next two in this series and hoping I can read in peace.

If you read it and disagree with what I've said - feel free to tell me...
